Safe Consumption Room (SCR)
Safe consumption rooms are in use in countries all over the world including: Canada, Australia and various European countries. They are a safe place for people who suffer with addiction to use their substances in a healthy way.
Visitors bring their own substances and are given clean equipment and advice to consume their substance of choice. This system reduces transmission of blood borne viruses and overdose deaths. Qualified staff monitor visitors and guide them through every step of the process.
Our SCR Services
Our safe consumption room has private, safe booths to give visitors the space to use their personal substances in their own time.
Specially trained staff are on hand to give advice and safeguard clients.
During aftercare visitors can receive food and beverages from our on site cafe.
We provide shower/changing and wash rooms for visitors to maintain hygiene and clean clothes.
This small facility provides clients with easy access to minor healthcare. For example, dressing open wounds and testing for illnesses.
The aftercare facility has a number of quiet corners to allow clients to relax give them some respite.
In the aftercare unit we have multiple counselling/mental health/ discussion pods for group or individual sessions to talk about any issues they may be facing or their options for recovery programmes.
Contact with nature can provide substantial positive reinforcements in a persons life so we have are large outdoor/garden space for clients to use and help maintain at their leisure.
What to Expect

When you arrive you will be greeted by a friendly member of staff and ask routine questions to confirm your eligibility and to confirm you understand the house rules we have.

You will then be asked to wait until a space is available in the safe consumption room. (This is usually no longer than 15mins)

A member of staff will guide you to an unoccupied booth and offer you clean equipment as well as any advice if you would like it. If you would feel more comfortable a staff member can sit with you, although, they are not allowed to administer the substances for you.

Please note, within the safe consumption room you will be monitored by staff for your own safety.

Once you feel comfortable, you can leave the booth and walk along a short corridor to the aftercare facilities.

Here you can get some food and drink and relax in a safe environment until you feel ready to leave. There are also opportunities to use our garden, showers, wash clothes and attend support services if you feel ready to discuss moving away from substances. Staff are on hand to answer questions and help in anyway they can.

When you feel ready you can leave the facility using our discrete exit.
Eligibility
To be eligible to use our services you must be ALL of the following:

18+
-
Have not consumed alcohol in the last 6 hours prior to visit

Are not on drug substitute therapies like HAT
-
Do not use drugs recreationally
House Rules
To protect everyone who enters the premises and to ensure our system benefits those that need it we ask everyone to strictly abide by these rules:

Aggressive or violent behaviour of any kind is NOT tolerated and you will be asked to leave immediately.

You may not share/sell/buy substances or equipment on the premises or within 500metres of the building.

You must give the same name every time you visit the facility. It doesn’t need to be your real name, but it must be the same every time.

By using this facility you understand and give your consent that if you experience an overdose staff will intervene and try to reverse the effects.
