Our Philosophy

Ceangal means ‘connection’ in Gaelic and our philosophy is “the opposite of addiction is connection”. We want to help people discover meaningful connections within their life to strengthen positive influences, therefore, enabling people the chance to live more happy and healthy lives. We know that everyone is different so our goals will adapt depending individual circumstances. For example, someone who uses heroin in the street daily, our goal might be just to encourage them to visit the centre and use a clean needle. However, for someone currently on their recovery journey, our goal might be to help them find employment. Although our main aim is to reduce drug related deaths within Scotland, our staff are the most important part of our approach. They are specially trained to provide non-judgemental support and care to people who have been affected by substance addiction. As a result, we strive to maintain a compassionate service for all who visit Ceangal.

What We Do

There are three key actions this site enables:

Sweeper

Encouraging drug related activity off the streets by providing clients with a safe space to bring their own substances to consume under medical supervision.

Safety Net

Encouraging people who suffer with addiction to think about improving their own lives by providing services, support and a safe space to gain some respite.

Springboard

Helping individuals who are ready to begin their recovery journey by facilitating support networks and referrals to speciaistl treatment. Our centre also houses facilities for people in recovery by providing consultations and therapies. (see our services for more information)

What We Do

Why?

For the last 2 years Scotland has had the most drug related deaths in any European country. This issue is most prevalent in Glasgow. In order to combat this worrying statistic Ceangal has been set up.

It is clear we as a society should be doing more to help people who suffer with addiction. This is a way which we can start to spread love and kindness instead of resentment and anger.

Centres like Ceangal have been set up all over the world with extremely positive results.

How?

We provide clean equipment and medical supervision to prevent the spread of blood borne viruses and overdose deaths.

Our aftercare facilities allow people who use drugs to seek medical interventions for other health issues, relax in a safe environment and engage in counselling which increases the chances of referral to specialist treatment.

Our holistic approach means people who suffer with addiction can become part of a community to help them re-connect with society.

We have a wide range of services to help individuals in recovery move forward. From employment and housing to legal support, yoga classes and skills workshops.
